TekGuard Outlook PlugIn

The EMail Interceptor Microsoft Outlook Plug-In (EMI Outlook PlugIn) supports two types
of filtering: Block List support and Probability tagging. EMI Outlook PlugIn can work as a
stand-alone plug in for Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002, or in conjunction with the EMail
Interceptor Mail Server. EMI PlugIn is supported by the standard Outlook 2000/2002 Add-In
/ AddIn software protocol. Click here for downloads...

Block Lists (BLs)
Block Lists (BLs) are a network solution, which keeps Junk Mail (Spam) from
entering the network, from entering the mail server, and from entering your mailbox. End
users are concerned only with a junk-free mailbox, but network administrators are
concerned with keeping the mail server working. Mailboxes can be flooded during a Junk
Mail "attack", resulting in postponed or undeliverable desired email. When using
the PlugIn with EMail Interceptor Server, your Block List will determine if the server
will accept or deny a given SMTP connection. This way, the server can avoid accepting and
processing Junk Mail, which means that desired email gets thru faster, and that fewer mail
servers are required to handle the email load.
The "Analyze Button" and Probability Tagging
An incoming email is broken into words or phrases. Each word or phrase is stored in a
database along with the number of time it occurs as a Good Mail or Junk Mail message. When
you press "Analyze", EMI Outlook PlugIn uses these counts and the total number
of Good Mail and Junk Mail messages to determines a probability that the message in
question is Junk Mail. EMI Outlook PlugIn gives you control over parameters used in the
calculations, along with options for automatically deleting Junk Mail after your Junk Mail
database is sufficiently reliable.
The "Is Junk" Button
To mark messages as Junk Mail, highlight the message or message that you want to mark.
Once you have selected one or more messages, click the "Is Junk" button. This
will analyze the message(s) and update your Token and Block List databases. EMI Outlook
PlugIn then uses these new probabilities the next time email is analyzed.
The "Is Good" Button
It is equally important to mark messages that are Good Mail. The "Is Good"
button updates the Good Mail token probabilities and does not delete the emails.
The "EMI Dashboard" Button
This user interface lets you adjust EMI Outlook PlugIn
settings, and configure various options.
The Token Database
The Token Database keeps track of the frequency that words and phrases appear in
messages that you've designated as either Good Mail or Junk Mail. EMI Outlook PlugIn uses
this information to determine a probability that an incoming message is Junk Mail, also
known as "Spam". As you mark more messages as either Good Mail or Junk Mail,
your database will become more and more accurate. After just a few dozen messages you will
find that most Junk Mail is automatically flagged and easily deleted.
